FAQ...

When will I receive my pre-ordered CD(s)?
The projected completion date for "keep talking" is September 1, 2008.  You will receive your order as soon as they get to us from the CD manufacturer.

What are the costs associated with recording an album?
As with anything, cost depends on the scope and expectations of the project.  A decent acoustic recording used as a demonstration of a song could be made in a bathroom with a decent microphone and a computer.  But taking the songs to the next level (in the interest of having them included in film, TV, and radio) with full instrumentation and unique production is another thing entirely.  In short, it gets expensive... and quick!  Here is a list of some of the constituent costs of a professional that will comprise the making of "keep talking":

Pre-Production includes work with producer making decisions on song selection, song structure, and individual song instrumentation along with practice time with core musicians who will be involved in the project
$1,000/song + 12 songs = $12,000

Studio Time: includes the production phases of recording, mixing and editing tracks... performed at Osceola Studios in Raleigh, NC
(previous projects by engineer/producer include Gnarls Barkley,
Joe Henry, Vienna Teng, Big Pun, The Never, Velvet Revolver...  and
Laura Tsaggaris "proof")
$90 = 1 hour in studio
$650 = 1 day in studio
$15,600 = 24 days in studio (total project time)

Mastering Expense a post-production phase performed by a specialized engineer that unifies the CD by using EQ, compression, and other dynamics processing to give it a consistent sound from track to track.  it also raises the overall level (volume) of the entire album through the careful use of compression...this ensures that the recorded songs sound great, whether played in a car stereo, portable CD player, mp3 player, or top-of-the-line stereo system
(previous projects by engineer include Andrew Bird, Ani DiFranco,
Cracker, Le Tigre, Squirrel Nut Zippers, Superchunk)
$120 = 1 hour of mastering
$1,500 = total mastering expense

Miscellaneous Expense:
$800 = ½" analog tape, used in the mixing process (need 4 reels at $200/reel)
$200 = hard drive to back up files at the end of each session
$150 = cost of charting songs for horn and/or string section
$100 = DVD data discs
$50 = CDR reference discs

What will "keep talking" sound like?
Acoustic versions of some of the songs will be posted
